1Accepting these Terms

By downloading, installing or using the CaseStep app (“CaseStep” or “the app”) or this website, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”) and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use CaseStep.

CaseStep is operated by D&B Evergreen Adventure LLC (“we”, “our” or “us”), a company registered in the State of Washington, USA.

Important

CaseStep is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of State or any government agency. We are an independent company. CaseStep checks case statuses through USCIS’s official Case Status API with USCIS’s authorization, which does not mean USCIS endorses or partners with us.

2What CaseStep does

  • Checks the status of USCIS cases you add by receipt number, through our server and USCIS’s official Case Status API
  • Shows each case’s status history and notifies you on your phone when a status changes
  • Keeps your cases on your phone and, if you choose, backs them up to your CaseStep account
  • Shows the monthly Visa Bulletin published by the U.S. Department of State, and which chart USCIS accepts that month
  • Shows USCIS processing times for your form, category and office, and works out when a case can ask USCIS about a delay (the case inquiry date)
  • Helps you find and confirm a priority date

CaseStep is free to download and use, with no ads and no in-app purchases. If we add paid features or ads, we’ll update these Terms and the Privacy Policy first.

3Who can use CaseStep

You must be at least 13 years old to use CaseStep. If you’re under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you need permission from a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms for you.

4Your account and the cases you add

  • Sign-in. You sign in with Apple or Google. Keep that account and your phone secure; you’re responsible for what happens under your CaseStep account. App lock can add Face ID or fingerprint protection.
  • Only cases you’re allowed to track. A receipt number identifies a person’s immigration case. Add your own cases, or those of family members or other people who have allowed you to track them. Don’t use CaseStep to look up anyone else’s case.
  • Correct receipt numbers. CaseStep shows what USCIS returns for the number you enter, so check that each receipt number matches your USCIS notice.
  • Notification settings. If others can see your phone, keep Show case details off so notifications stay private.

5Fair use and limits

USCIS limits how often its Case Status API can be used, and everyone who uses CaseStep shares that limit. So each account can track up to 10 cases, CaseStep limits how often a case is checked, and we may slow down, pause or block requests that look automated or abusive.

Background checks run when your phone’s operating system allows them, so a status change may reach you hours after USCIS makes it. Opening CaseStep checks your cases again.

6What you agree not to do

  • Use CaseStep for any illegal purpose, or to track someone’s case without their permission
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or tamper with CaseStep or its security checks, except where the law allows it
  • Reach our server or USCIS’s systems other than through the app, or use bots, scripts or other automated systems with CaseStep
  • Overload or interfere with our servers or USCIS’s systems, or try to get around CaseStep’s limits
  • Present CaseStep as an official USCIS or government service, or use it to suggest a government connection
  • Resell, rent or redistribute CaseStep or the information it shows as a service of your own
  • Break any law or regulation that applies to you

7Information, estimates and no legal advice

7.1 No legal advice

CaseStep does not provide legal advice.

CaseStep is an information tool. We are not attorneys, and nothing in CaseStep is legal advice or creates an attorney-client relationship. For advice about your case, talk to a licensed immigration attorney or a representative accredited by a recognized organization, or see uscis.gov.

7.2 Information from USCIS and the Department of State

Case statuses and processing times come from USCIS, and the Visa Bulletin comes from the U.S. Department of State. We show this information as we receive it, and we can’t guarantee it is accurate, complete or current:

  • USCIS’s systems can have errors, and status updates can be delayed
  • A status CaseStep shows may be several hours old; the case shows when it was last checked
  • Policy changes can make information out of date
  • Technical problems can stop CaseStep from getting or showing information

Always check important information with USCIS at egov.uscis.gov or the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283. Your USCIS notices, such as Form I-797, are the official record of your case.

7.3 Dates and estimates CaseStep works out

  • Case inquiry date: worked out from the processing time USCIS publishes for your form, category and office. USCIS decides whether you can submit an inquiry, so check its processing times page before you do.
  • Priority date: CaseStep can suggest one from your case; confirm it against your USCIS notice.
  • Visa Bulletin changes: the dates and month-to-month changes as the Department of State publishes them, and the chart USCIS says to use that month.

These are general guidance, not guarantees of when or how your case will be decided. They can’t account for your case’s own circumstances, such as requests for evidence, background checks, interviews, transfers between offices, visa availability or policy changes.

8No warranties

We do not guarantee that CaseStep will work without interruptions or errors, meet your needs, have its defects fixed, always reach USCIS’s systems or deliver notifications at a particular time.

CaseStep is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.

9Limitation of liability

9.1 Immigration consequences

We are not responsible for immigration consequences of using CaseStep or relying on what it shows, including missed deadlines, appointments or filing windows; denied applications; removal proceedings; financial losses; or travel problems.

9.2 Maximum liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for all claims arising from your use of CaseStep will not exceed the greater of $50 USD or the amount you paid us for CaseStep, if any.

9.3 Excluded damages

We will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, use or goodwill, even if we were told such damages were possible.

Some places don’t allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

10Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless D&B Evergreen Adventure LLC and its affiliates from claims, damages, losses, liabilities and expenses (including attorneys’ fees) that arise from your use or misuse of CaseStep, your breaking these Terms or any law, or your violating anyone else’s rights.

11Your data and backups

How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms.

Your cases are saved on your phone. If backup is off, they’re gone when you delete the app or lose your phone, unless your phone’s own backup brings them back. You can turn on Back up cases to my account in Settings. We aren’t responsible for lost data, and CaseStep isn’t a record of your case: keep your USCIS notices and documents.

12Third-party services

CaseStep relies on USCIS’s Case Status API. We aren’t responsible for its downtime or errors, changes to it, or USCIS’s own terms and privacy policy.

CaseStep also uses services from Apple, Google (including Firebase), Cloudflare and Expo, each under its own terms and privacy policy. CaseStep links to and opens outside websites, such as USCIS pages; we aren’t responsible for their content, accuracy or practices.

13App stores

These Terms are between you and D&B Evergreen Adventure LLC, not Apple or Google. You must also follow the terms of the store you got CaseStep from, including Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement where it applies, or the Google Play Terms of Service.

If you got CaseStep from Apple’s App Store:

  • We, not Apple, are responsible for CaseStep and its content.
  • Your license lets you use CaseStep on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store’s Usage Rules allow.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for CaseStep.
  • If CaseStep fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the price you paid for it, if any. Apple has no other warranty obligation for CaseStep.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims about CaseStep, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and consumer protection claims.
  • If someone claims CaseStep infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with that claim.
  • You confirm that you aren’t in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you aren’t on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Questions, complaints and claims about CaseStep go to us (see Contact us).

14Intellectual property

CaseStep, including its name, logo, design, code and text (but not government information), belongs to D&B Evergreen Adventure LLC and is protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. Case statuses, processing times and the Visa Bulletin come from the U.S. government, and we don’t claim ownership of them.

We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use CaseStep on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not resell or redistribute CaseStep, copy it or make works based on it, or remove copyright or trademark notices.

15Changes to CaseStep and these Terms

We update CaseStep to fix problems, add features, meet legal requirements and keep up with changes to USCIS’s systems. Some updates may be required to keep using it. Please keep the app up to date.

We may change these Terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new “Last updated” date, and tell you in the app or on this website before an important change applies. Using CaseStep after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

16Ending your use

You can stop using CaseStep at any time, and delete your account in Settings → Delete account (how account deletion works).

We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if we need to in order to protect CaseStep, its users or USCIS’s systems, or if the law requires it. We may change or stop offering CaseStep or any feature; if we stop offering CaseStep, we’ll try to tell you in the app first.

When your access ends, your license ends too. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as 7 through 10, 18 and 19, keep applying.

17No government affiliation

CaseStep is a private service. It is not:

  • An official USCIS or U.S. government app
  • Endorsed or approved by USCIS or any government agency
  • A replacement for official USCIS services or communications
  • Able to speed up, influence or change any immigration decision

For official services, visit uscis.gov.

18Governing law and disputes

18.1 Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Washington, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. You can use CaseStep from anywhere, but it is designed for cases before USCIS, a U.S. agency. Any legal action that isn’t subject to arbitration below will be brought only in the federal or state courts in Washington State, and you agree to their jurisdiction.

18.2 Informal resolution first

Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at support@casestep.app and try to resolve the dispute informally.

18.3 Arbitration

Disputes we can’t resolve informally will be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the American Arbitration Association’s rules, instead of in court, except that either of us may bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies.

18.4 No class actions

You and we agree that disputes will be resolved individually, and not as part of a class, consolidated or representative action.

19General terms

  • Severability. If a provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest of these Terms stays in effect.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and D&B Evergreen Adventure LLC about CaseStep, and replace any earlier ones.
  • No waiver. If we don’t enforce a right or provision, we haven’t given it up.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer these Terms without our written consent. We may transfer them without restriction.
  • Force majeure. We aren’t liable for failures caused by things beyond our reasonable control, such as changes to or outages of USCIS’s systems, natural disasters, government actions, internet outages or public health emergencies.
  • Language. CaseStep is available in several languages. If a translation of these Terms differs from the English version, the English version applies.

20Acknowledgment

By using CaseStep, you confirm that:

  • You have read and understood these Terms, and you agree to them
  • CaseStep is not affiliated with USCIS or any government agency
  • CaseStep does not provide legal advice
  • Estimates and dates are not guarantees, and you’ll check important information with USCIS
  • You use CaseStep at your own risk, and we aren’t responsible for immigration consequences

A reminder

CaseStep helps you follow your USCIS case. It doesn’t replace professional immigration legal advice, official USCIS communications or contacting USCIS directly.
