Cases

Every case, one place.

Track up to 10 receipt numbers for you and your family. Each card shows the latest status from USCIS, colored by what it means for you.

Type it the way it’s printed

Spaces, dashes and lowercase letters are fine. CaseStep checks for 3 letters and 10 digits before anything is sent, and sends the number only to USCIS, to check its status.

Your case’s history from USCIS, plus every change CaseStep notices along the way, newest first. The yellow dot marks where your case is today.

Copy your receipt with one tap, or open the USCIS website. CaseStep copies the number first and never puts it in a web address.

New receipt? CaseStep waits with you

USCIS can take a few days to find a new receipt number. CaseStep keeps checking, and if USCIS still can’t find it after 30 days, asks you to double-check it.

Your priority date, suggested

USCIS’s case status doesn’t include a priority date. For petitions where the date USCIS received your case is usually your priority date, CaseStep suggests it. You check it against your I-797 notice, and nothing is saved until you confirm.

How CaseStep helps with the priority date for each form

Notifications

Know when it moves.

CaseStep checks your cases in the background and lets you know when a status changes. No more refreshing the USCIS website.

Your cases

Visa Bulletin

  • Private by default. The lock screen says “One of your cases has a new status” unless you turn on Show case details. Your receipt number is never in a notification.
  • One summary, not a pile. When several updates arrive together, they come as one notification.
  • Honest timing. Your phone decides when background checks run, often every few hours. CaseStep also checks whenever you open it, and you can pull down to check right away.

Visa Bulletin

Your place in line, every month.

Pick family or employment, your category and your country. CaseStep shows the cutoff date, how it moved since last month, and which chart USCIS accepts for green card applications.

  • Final Action dates and Dates for Filing, one tap apart
  • Every bulletin back to October 2015
  • A notification when the new bulletin is out
  • The latest bulletin opens even when you’re offline

    Privacy

    Private by design.

Your immigration case is personal. CaseStep is built to know as little about it as it can.

    • Your cases live on your phone

Receipt numbers are saved on your phone, separately for each account. They’re sent only to USCIS, to check status.

    • Backup is your choice

Off unless you turn it on. With backup, your cases come back on a new phone. Turning it off deletes the backup.

    • No password to remember

Sign in with Apple or Google. Every check is tied to your signed-in account, and nothing shows before you sign in.

    • Quiet lock screen

Notifications keep case details private unless you choose to show them, and never include a receipt number.

    • App lock

Require Face ID or your fingerprint to open CaseStep. The app switcher hides your cases too.

    • No readable receipts on our server

The server that talks to USCIS stores scrambled keys only, never a readable receipt number or your account ID.

    • Analytics you control

Turn off usage analytics in Settings at any time. No advertising ID, and analytics never include receipts, names or statuses.

    • Delete it all

Settings, then Delete account, removes your account and your backup.

    Made for everyone

    In your language, your way.

    Five languages at launch

CaseStep follows your phone’s language, or pick one in Settings. Status titles are translated. USCIS writes the full status in English and Spanish, so other languages show it in English.

    FAQ

    Questions, answered.

    Is CaseStep part of USCIS?

No. CaseStep is an independent app and is not affiliated with USCIS or the U.S. government. It reads case statuses from USCIS’s official Case Status API, and it doesn’t provide legal advice.

How often does CaseStep check my cases?

CaseStep asks your phone to run a check in the background every few hours. iPhone and Android decide when it actually runs, so CaseStep also checks every time you open it. To check right away, pull down on your cases.

My new receipt says “Waiting for USCIS.” Is something wrong?

Probably not. USCIS often doesn’t know a receipt number for several days after the notice arrives. CaseStep keeps checking. If USCIS still can’t find it after 30 days, CaseStep asks you to check the number, and you can fix it right on the case.

How many cases can I track?

Up to 10 cases per account, enough for most families. Give each one a nickname so you can tell them apart.

What happens if I get a new phone?

Turn on “Back up cases to my account” in Settings, and your cases come back when you sign in on the new phone. If backup is off, your cases stay on the old phone. Moving from iPhone to Android? Add Google sign-in to your account first, because Sign in with Apple works on iPhone only.

What is the case inquiry date?

USCIS lets you ask about a case that has taken longer than usual. If USCIS received your case before the inquiry date for your form, category and office, you can send an inquiry. CaseStep works this out every day and lets you know once your case qualifies.

Which Visa Bulletin chart should I use?

Each month USCIS says whether green card applications (Form I-485) use the Final Action dates or the Dates for Filing chart. CaseStep shows which one USCIS accepts that month, and switches to it with one tap.

    Which languages does CaseStep speak?

English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese and Korean. USCIS writes status descriptions in English and Spanish, so in Vietnamese, Chinese and Korean you’ll see the status title translated and the full description in English.
